VOTER WORK

HRC lobbies Congress, provides campaign support to candidates for federal office, and works to educate the public on a wide array of topics affecting gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans, including workplace, family and discrimination issues. HRC's Youth College program provides weeklong training to 20 young, energetic activists and places them in campaigns across the country. The organization works to provide its members with candidates' voting records on gay-, lesbian-, bisexual- and transgender-related issues. HRC offers additional campaign support for targeted candidates including message development, educational advertisements, get-out-the-vote mailings and phone calls and membership mobilization and fundraising. HRC also provides funding and staff support to state and local groups to fight anti-GLBT ballot initiatives.||

DESCRIPTION

Working for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Equal Rights, the Human Rights Campaign, the largest national lesbian and gay political organization, envisions an America where lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people are ensured of their basic equal rights, and can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community. HRC has more than 500,000 members, both gay and non-gay, all committed to making this vision of equality a reality.

Founded in 1980, HRC effectively lobbies Congress, provides campaign support to candidates for federal office, and works to educate the public on a wide array of topics affecting gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans, including workplace, family and discrimination issues.

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation, an affiliated organization of HRC, engages in extensive research, and provides public education and programming.

Through HRC's online Action Center, the Action Network has generated more than 1 million faxes and e-mails to Congress, holding members accountable for their votes.
