Vote for America/Common Cause Education Fund
VOTER WORK
Vote for America is a non-partisan voter registration and get-out-the-vote effort. Vote for America volunteers inspire their family, friends, neighbors, and others who are new or infrequent voters to "pledge to vote," making a personal commitment to vote. They provide volunteers with the tools and support to follow up with their "pledged voters" and to help these new voters feel comfortable with the process of voting, informed about candidates and campaign issues, ad excited about going to the polls on Election Day.
DESCRIPTION
The Common Cause Education Fund is the 501 (c)(3) education and research affiliate of Common Cause. Common Cause was founded in 1970 as a nonpartisan vehicle for citizens to take political action and hold their elected leaders accountable to the public interest. Backed by more than 250,000 members and supporters across the country, Common Cause now is in its fourth decade as a leading force in the movement to revitalize our democracy and make our political process fair and open to all Americans.
One of the founding mottos of Common Cause is "an individual can make a difference," and we strongly believe that each citizen has a vital role to play in our democracy. Our organization is built on the recognition that the political process will serve the interests of all Americans, only if citizens remain vigilant, vocal, and active. That begins with voting. In the 1970s, we led the national campaign to guarantee the right to vote to 18-years-olds, many of whom were fighting in Vietnam at the time. Today, we are ramping up our longstanding efforts to inspire Americans to get informed and go to the polls through the Vote for America.
